Climate conditions and crowd levels for each month of the year.
January brings the coolest temperatures of the year. Highs hover around 15°C (60°F). Lows drop to about 10°C (50°F) at night. Rainfall averages close to 79mm, making this one of the wetter months. The city wears a quieter, more lived-in character.
February is nearly identical to January in temperature: highs of 15°C (60°F) and lows of 9°C (49°F). Rainfall eases slightly to around 74mm. Days remain short. Streets stay relatively empty. There is something to be said for having Valletta's grand squares largely to yourself.
March marks the beginning of the turnaround. Highs climb to 17°C (63°F). Rainfall drops to a more manageable 46mm. The island's stony landscape softens with wildflowers. Evenings still call for a jacket. Daytime hours are pleasant.
April is when Valletta starts feeling like summer is coming. Highs reach 20°C (68°F). Rainfall falls to just 20mm. The city fills with European visitors escaping their own grey springs. The light is excellent. The pace remains unhurried.
May is a transition month in the best possible sense. Temperatures climb to 24°C (75°F) during the day. Lows settle at 15°C (60°F). You start feeling the sun's real strength on your skin. Rainfall at 10mm is almost negligible.
June is when the dry season settles in properly. Highs hit 28°C (83°F). Only about 5mm of rain falls across the whole month. The sea has warmed enough for comfortable swimming. The city gets noticeably busier as European summer holidays begin.
July is the peak of everything. Highs reach 31°C (89°F) with overnight lows of 22°C (71°F). For practical purposes it does not rain at all. Valletta hits maximum capacity with visitors. The midday heat in the city's stone-lined streets can be intense.
August runs closely parallel to July, with highs at 32°C (89°F) and overnight lows of 23°C (73°F). A small amount of rainfall, around 18mm, might appear, usually as a brief thunderstorm. The city is as crowded as it gets.
September sees the first signs of the season shifting. Highs drop to 28°C (83°F). Evenings become noticeably more comfortable at 21°C (70°F). Rainfall starts returning at around 61mm for the month, though it rarely disrupts a full day. This month rewards those who time their visit carefully.
October delivers autumn without apology. Highs settle at 25°C (77°F) and lows drop to 18°C (65°F). October is statistically one of the rainiest months at around 81mm, though the showers tend to be intermittent rather than sustained. The crowds have thinned considerably. Pack layers.
November turns cooler and wetter. Highs of 20°C (69°F) and lows around 14°C (58°F). With roughly 91mm of rainfall on average, this is one of Valletta's damper months, and an umbrella becomes essential rather than optional. The city takes on a more local character. Fewer tourists.
December ends the year quietly. Highs of 17°C (62°F) and lows of 12°C (53°F), with December being statistically the wettest month at around 94mm. Valletta's limestone architecture looks dramatic under winter skies, and the city's Christmas decorations along Republic Street add warmth to the shorter days. Bring a coat.
